Hello everyone and welcome back to another issue of the Daily News here at WCW Ohio. It is another beautiful day outside and we remain busy as we start to enter our hunting season. In regards to the Daily News I just wanted to let you all know that we will no longer be updating the Daily News on Saturday or Sunday. But don't worry, we will keep posting Monday through Friday with the best content we have to offer.
In other news, the Apollo 13 contest is still going on and we are still taking entries. Don't miss your chance for a free hunt, this will be a hunt to remember. Take a look at what the 2008 winner had to say about his hunt of a lifetime.
Hey Justin,
Thanks for returning my e-mail. I would love to get a chance to come back to the ranch. I have told everyone I can about it, and show them the calendar and the photos I took from the ranch. I think they are amazed by it as about as much as I am.
I will tell you my story of getting to the ranch.
There is a wildlife ranch located 6 or 7 miles from me. Last fall the ranch along with the Oklahoma Station of SCI offered two elk hunts to disabled veterans from Oklahoma. I applied for the hunt and they received about 800 applications. Unfortunately I was not drawn. On Monday morning February 9th I received a call from Mike Mistelske, which is the president of the Oklahoma Station of SCI. He asked me if I had ever hunted whitetail, and that Dan Yoder at World Class Whitetails of Ohio was offering a hunt to a disabled veteran who has never hunted whitetail before. I joined the U S Army 2 weeks out of high school. I was discharged in January of 2000 for medical injuries I received while on active duty in the 82nd Airborne Division. I have never had the chance to hunt whitetail or any big game. That same afternoon Mike called me back and told me I had the hunt. He also told me I had to be there on Thursday about noon. I told him I will be there. I then called my friend Travis Ballard and asked him if he would go with me, he said yes so we planned the trip. We arrived at the ranch about 11 o'clock on Thursday. I met my guide Jay Dean, and also a film crew from Michigan. The hunt was filmed and aired on cable television on the Hunting Connection show by Danny Leonard. We climbed into the blind about 3 o'clock that afternoon with no luck. On Friday we tried it again. About the same time we arrived at the blind. We saw alot of deer, but not a shooter until about 30 minutes before dark when Jay Dean saw a couple of good bucks coming up on our left. At the right time Jay Dean told me to shoot. I took a great 10 pointer, and had the time of my life.
Thanks again to all of you at WCW for giving me a hunt I will never forget.
Thank You
Ray Durossette
